Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage

The elephant orphanage located in Pinnawala is home to many of these gentle giants who have been rescued as they have been at risk of poachers. The orphanage provides a home as well as a safe sanctuary to raise awareness about the conservation of these beautiful animals. A highlight of the day includes watching the baby elephants feeding off their mothers and the young ones being fed through a baby’s bottle.

Vesak Festival

Vesak is a significant day for the Buddhist people and is a pivotal day in Sri Lanka. It commemorates three significant milestones in Lord Buddha’s lifetime: the birth of Buddha, him attaining Enlightenment and his
passing away into Nirvana.  Vesak is celebrated on the day of the full moon in May.

Botanical Garden at Hakgala

Hakgala Botanical Gardens has an abundance of tall lush trees and wide spread of beautiful flowers and vegetation. Hakgala Botanical Gardens is special as it is also home to the
well known legend of Ramayan. It is believed that this beautiful garden was the pleasure garden of King Ravana. Legend suggests that this may have been place where Lord Ram’s wife Sita was held captive by King Ravana.

Botanical Garden at Peradeniya

Peradeniya Gardens is one of the largest of the three botanical gardens in Sri Lanka. Located in Kandy, it is surrounded on three sides by river Mahaweli.
